My new Nord Lead 2x keyboard
One of the things we ran into real quick when using all computer based synths and samplers is that you run out of processing power real quick. We needed to find a way to begin to offload some of the work to other devices.
The most obvious was to purchase a synthesizer. 1st advantage is having a large base of high quality sounds that we could always count on. 2nd was to have a regular sized keyboard. We didn’t really count on myself playing keys that often but it adds such a cool dynamic. I had been using my little Korg MicroKontrol but the keys on that thing are tiny!
Nord was my first choice in a synthesizer because of the quality of the sound (having it be bright red helped some too). I went with the Nord Lead 2x which is what they call a “Virtual Analog Synthesizer”. It’s “virtual analog” because internally it’s actually completely digital, it just functions like, or emulates how the old analog synths work.
I’m still getting my head around it and beginning to incorporate it into our sound. It has some amazingly thick pad and bass sounds that I can’t wait to try out live.
